These two DVD videos, produced by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, explain the complex biological systems that control body weight and energy metabolism. One presenter, Dr. Evans, discovered the family of nuclear receptors that control sugar and fat metabolism; he also identified the molecular trigger governing fat cell formation. The other presenter, Dr. Friedman, discovered leptin, a key regulatory hormone made by fat tissue.

While arcane mathematical formulae are scattered in only relatively modest quantities throughout this book, its audience is definitely the well-trained electrical engineer or instrument wonk. Chapter 7.3, though, on "Biological Effects and Electromagnetic Fields" is a section that could profitably be read by anyone interested in or concerned about the effects that rapidly-proliferating electronic devices could be having on human health.
