NEW TITLES ON OUR DISPLAY TABLES --- OCTOBER 2006

BLACKBOARD FOR DUMMIES

Southworth, Cakiki, Vovides, and Zvacek

We don't mean to cast aspersions but, hey, you know whether you need this book or not. As the back cover states, you're an educator, not a psychic; how can you know how to use Blackboard without some good instructions? With step-by-step examples, the authors show how to set up a Blackboard classroom, put your materials on the Internet, communicate online with class members, and evaluate student performance.

INSIDE DEAF CULTURE

Carol Padden and Tom Humphries

For those who have been confused by the recent high-profile controversy over the hiring of the new Gallaudet president, this book fascinatingly recounts the rise of group identity among deaf people with all of its multi-faceted manifestations.

TEST-TAKING STRATEGIES
&
STUDY SKILLS
FOR THE UTTERLY CONFUSED

Laurie Rozakis

FASHION
A History from the
18th to the 20th Century

This lavish two-volume work is a tour de force in women's fashion history from the 1700s forward. Men might be interested in knowing that Rudi Gernreich's "mono-kini" from the 1960s is featured on page 586.

THE ART OF PETER MAX
Charles A Riley II

Discover (or re-discover if you're of a certain age) the bold, vivid psychedelic paintings, drawings, graphics, etchings, posters, and airplanes(!) of Peter Max, an influential artist/celebrity since the 1960s.

SNAKES IN SUITS
When Psychopaths Go To Work

"Only a fraction of psychopaths are in prison. The rest thrive in the many target-rich environments that make up society, including business, religious, political, and social organizations, and the Internet."

COMPLETE PORTFOLIO OF
HUMAN ANATOMY AND PATHOLOGY

Collection of 50 Anatomical Charts ...

Western Library owns many well-illustrated anatomy books but perhaps none can match the vividness and clarity of the expository drawings in this Scientific Publishing collection. Plates of the skeletal system, the hand and wrist, and the eye are to be expected, of course, but what makes the work unique is the visual explanations of diseases and conditions such as asthma, hypertension, hepatitis, diabetes and many other afflictions.
